Former Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson — who know works in Raleigh on the post-release supervision and parole commission — is among several area sheriff’s featured in a new painting by Stokes County artist Frank Duncan.
The artwork depicts several lawmen or “revenuers” disposing of a moonshine still. Also featured in the painting are Stokes County Sheriff Mike Marshall, Sheriff Sam Page of Rockingham County and former Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson, all depicted in Prohibition-era clothing.
Duncan has other artwork with old west themes, and the moonshine theme, he said, is always a popular one.
There are 250 prints available and will be sold for $85 a piece. Each print features the signatures of each of the sheriffs as well as Duncan’s. Proceeds will go to four different nonprofits chosen by each of the sheriffs.
To purchase a print, contact Duncan at 336-871-2921 or firstname.lastname@example.org or write to 1640 Duggins Road, Madison, N.C. 27025.
