DOBSON — The Surry Central tennis team held serve at the top of the Western Piedmont 2-A Wednesday afternoon, improving to a perfect 8-0 in conference play with a 9-0 rout of visiting West Stokes.
The Lady Eagles (9-4 overall) scored double-bagel victories at Nos. 1, 2 and 6 singles, and lost just one game at Nos. 3 and 4. The only Surry Central singles entry who received a challenge was Anna Senter, who was extended to a tiebreaker set at No. 5 singles, but prevailed 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.
Sommer Chilton and Mallory Wilmoth won from the top two seeds without losing a game, as did Hannah Pardue at No. 6. Hope Hinson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Sarah Wyble claimed a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4.
The Wildcats (0-11, 0-5), who lost their first match against Central exactly a week earlier, were more competitive in the doubles matches but still didn’t win any. Chilton and Wilmoth won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Hinson and Senter took an 8-5 victory. Wyble and Pardue teamed up to shut out their opponents at No. 3.
