Lady Bears repeat as 1A champs

RALEIGH — Make it two in a row for the Lady Bears.

Mount Airy’s girls’ basketball team repeated as NCHSAA 1A state champions on Saturday afternoon, using an 11-0 first-quarter run to take the lead for good and cruise to their second consecutive blowout in the finals, 69-32 over East Regional champion Pamlico at Reynolds Coliseum.

Senior Jo Snow ended her career with a game-high 27 points and earned MVP honors in the championship game. Snow had 16 of her team’s 21 first-quarter points as Mount Airy led 21-10 at that point.

The Lady Bears ended the season with an overall record of 27-2.
