It was a busy week of golf at Mount Airy Country Club.
Club golfers competed on Saturday and Sunday in the Mount Airy Country Club Championship Tournament. Each player played from the white/blue tees, and players were flighted based on their first-round scores on Saturday.
Scottie Payne came away victorious in the Championship Flight with a final score of 147 over the two-day event. Jody Casstevens came in second at 152 and Darian Byrd finished third with a score of 157.
In the First Flight, Brad Dorsett led the way with a low score of 153, with Byron Kennedy and Justin Freeman tied for second place at 157. Michael Bowman finished in third place with a score of 162.
Rounding out the competition was the Second Flight, and Mitchel Mabe finished with the lowest score of those five golfers at 163. Tony Jenkins came in second at 166, Scott Corbin and Todd Brown tied for third at 173, and Justin Horne followed them with a total score of 181.
When that event came to a close, the junior golfers took to the links to display their skills at the Mount Airy Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. Officially titled the Junior Championship, there were no overall winners as the golfers played in different age groups and started from different tees. The golfers completed nine holes each day.
Three golfers competed in the ages 7-8 division, and all three were right within range of each other over the two days. Rhett Currin finished at 111 shots, Carter McPeak at 112 and Kyson Jenkins at 117.
Two golfers competed in the age 9 division. Jonah Adams paced things with a score of 106 and Avery Payne followed him at 121.
Kolby Jenkins was the final golfer to take part in the event. He competed by himself in the age 13 division and finished the two nine-hole rounds at 101 shots.
