STATE ROAD — The Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation held its seventh annual Golf Tournament at Cedarbrook Country Club on Thursday.

Proceeds from the tournament go to the Operation Round Up program. The Operation Round Up program exists to help those in communities served by the Surry-Yadkin EMC with special needs or circumstances. The SYEMC website uses the example of an individual/family that experiences a house fire. Operation Round Up is there to provide immediate assistance. The program also helps provide assistance to meet health and medical needs for families with catastrophic illnesses.

In addition to the annual tournament, the most common way of fundraising for Operation Round Up is via their electric bill. Member can volunteer to “round up” their monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar. The difference is then donated to the operation. While each donation may not seem like much, it adds up when the community comes together.

Final results of the tournament were not available at press time and will run in a later issue of the Mount Airy News.
