I got bad news and good news

By Ted Turner Jr.

Has anyone ever used the Bible to show you how you know you are going to Heaven? I want to share some scriptures with you today from the Bible that will show you the only way to get there. You have to understand that the Bible contains bad news and good news.

The bad news is something about you and the good news is something about God. When most people are asked, “Do you want the bad news or the good news first?” they usually prefer to hear the bad news first. So anticipating that you would request bad news first, here it is:

The bad news you need to understand is: You are a sinner.

Romans 3:23 states, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The Bible says that we have all sinned. The word “sin” in the Bible means “to miss the mark”. God has set the standard that we all must meet. That standard is to be holy as He is holy, perfect as He is perfect, righteous as He is righteous. But we’re not perfect and can’t meet God’s standard so we all fall short. We all miss the mark.

Hang on the bad news gets even worse. The second thing you need to understand is: The penalty for sin is death Romans 6:23 declares, “For the wages of sin is death.”

The Bible says that because you and I have sinned, we have earned death and will be eternally separated from God. We can all agree that is bad news. But after the Bible gives bad news then it gives the good news. The Bible says since there is no way we could come to God because of our sin, God decided to come to us.

The third thing you need to understand is the good news that: Christ died for you.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Imagine you are in a hospital dying of cancer. I come to you and say I want to do something for you. We’ll take all the cancer cells from your body put them in my body. What would happen? I would die and you would live. Because I took your cancer I died for you. I took the thing that was causing your death, placed it upon myself, and died as your substitute. The Bible says Christ came into the world, took the sin that was causing your death, place it upon himself, and died in your place. He was your substitute. He rose the third day as proof that sin and death had been conquered. Just as the bad news got even worse the good news gets even better.

The fourth thing you need to understand is: You can be saved through faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9 reveals, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Grace is undeserved favor, Saved means to be rescued or delivered from the penalty of sin, and Faith is trust. What this all means is since Jesus Christ died for your sins, God can now give you Heaven as a free gift. That is not just good news that is awesome news. All you need to do is put your faith and trust in Christ. That means you are trusting Him to save you, not trusting in your Church membership, your good life, or your baptism to get you to Heaven, but trusting in Christ and Him alone.

The final thing you need to understand is that now that you have heard the news it is up to you to: Make a decision today. John 5:24 teaches us, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”

Upon hearing the good news God demands an immediate decision from each one of us. There are only 2 choices: you can choose to die in your sins and spend eternity in hell separated from God or you can choose eternal life in Heaven through Jesus Christ. Delay only makes the right decision harder and indecision is a choice.

I have to ask you after hearing God’s word and the good news of salvation, is there anything that is keeping you from trusting Christ as your savior right now? Nowhere in the Bible does it say tomorrow. The Bible says Now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation.

If you want to go to Heaven make a choice now for Jesus Christ. It is the only way!

If you want to decide to give your life to Jesus today and put your faith and trust in Him then I ask you to declare it to God right now by praying this simple prayer:

“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

If you prayed this prayer and truly understand and believe what it says, then I believe you just received the free gift of salvation and began a relationship with God. I urge you to find a Bible believing church that can help you grow in this new relationship. Friends I love you, the Church loves you, and God loves you. May God bless you beyond measure!
