Local runners and walkers are invited to get outside and enjoy some brisk exercise on Saturday as the Armfield Civic and Recreation Center hosts its annual Pilot Mountain 5K Fall Trail Run.
Pre-registration for the event will be available through Friday, with early registrants having the option of signing up online at www.active.com before 8 p.m. Friday or stopping by the Armfield Center during regular business hours. Participants who preregister will receive a $5 discount down to $25.
Day-of-event registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the run to get underway at 9. Registration cost that morning will be $30.
The run will begin in an adjacent parking lot before proceeding into Nelson Acres. According to Armfield Center fitness director Magan Vogler, the trail should provide a scenic run or walk for all participants, regardless of pace. Runners who enjoy a challenge will also find satisfaction in tackling “Hudson Hill.”
“We usually have a lot of runners as well as several walkers,” Vogler said. “This is for either. Hudson Hill is a large hill near the start of the run that has gotten a lot of comments and is developing a reputation as a good challenge.”
The annual run serves as an enticing early fall outdoor activity for the surrounding community while raising funds for the center. Proceeds from the day, Vogler said, will go toward enhancing the center’s varied fitness programs, including but not limited to its youth activities.
“We usually see a late surge of interest,” Vogler said, “and we’re expecting several last-minute entries this year. We’d love to see participation exceed last year’s really good turnout when we were a little over 100 persons.”
