SHOALS — A Surry County man is in stable condition after being shot late Friday night in the Shoals community.
John Shelton, Surry emergency services director, said the man was in his late 20s, but did not give his name at this time. Paramedics stabilized the victim and transported him to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office isn’t releasing all details at this time.
Captain Lloyd Terry said that the incident occurred around midnight on Ellis Hardy Road, which is off Shoals Road half a mile southwest of the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department.
Brandon James Wall, 22, of Pioneer Camp Lane, Pinnacle, allegedly fired multiple shots from a firearm, one of which struck the victim.
Shelton said it appeared that Wall had fired the gun downward onto the roadway and left impact marks on the asphalt. One of the bullets may have ricocheted up from the road and struck the victim, he theorized.
Terry did not go into details of the shooting. However, he did say that Wall has been charged with going armed to the terror of the public and assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury. He was placed in jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
