An investigation into a stolen trailer led to two arrests and the recovery of stolen goods this week.

Sheriff Jimmy Combs said his office’s Criminal Investigations Division was working on a case about a stolen utility trailer when detectives uncovered information that the item was going to be sold off out of a parking lot in Pine Ridge.

Officers set up a sting at the Circle K convenience store on N.C. 89 near the I-77 intersection.

Spotting the missing trailer, the officers swooped in and arrested two individuals. In addition to the trailer, the detectives found other items which they might be able to link to additional larcenies in the area. Therefore, Combs said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

“Though Narcotics has been the tip of the spear in the battle against drugs, the Detective Division has worked tirelessly in an effort to solve crimes against our citizens and their property,” said Combs.

Clifford Allen Deloach, 35, of 13472 Traphill Road, Traphill, received a $6,000 secured bond after being charged with:

* One count of felony larceny;

* One count of felony possession of stolen property.

Kristie Cox Jernigan, 32, of 174 West Pine St., Mount Airy, received a $5,000 unsecured bond after being charged with:

* One count of felony larceny;

* One count of felony possession of stolen property.

Both defendents will be in court on Sept. 6 for these charges.

According to the Surry County court docket, Deloach already has an Aug. 6 court appearance for a charge of stealing gasoline.
