The Edward M. Armfield Sr. Foundation presented scholarships to 60 Surry County students during a recent ceremony at the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture and Enology on the Surry Community College campus.
Students, their parents, and school administrators from Surry County, Mount Airy, Millennium Charter Academy and Elkin joined Surry Community College representatives who recognized the achievements of the scholarship recipients.
Guest speaker Levi Goins, assistant principal of Mount Airy Middle School and a member of the first group of Surry County students to receive the Armfield Scholarship in 2002, encouraged recipients to find their passion and pursue it. He emphasized that using one’s talents to enrich the lives of those around us and the community at-large is a most important goal.
The Edward M. Armfield Sr. Foundation has invested more than $8 million in scholarships for Surry County students through the past 16 years. Armfield Foundation Board President E. Bedford Cannon and board member David Sprinkle, along with foundation staff members Mindy Oakley and Diana Hedgspeth, were special guests.
