The Second Annual Sharon Hardy Memorial Par 3 Tournament raised $5,000 recently for the Surry County Schools Educational Foundation.
The family of Sharon Hardy “continues Sharon’s legacy” by hosting the annual event. Sharon Hardy, who died in 2015, was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in the Surry County School System for 21 years. The proceeds of the tournament benefit the Sharon Smith Hardy Educational Endowment Fund.
Choice Metal Buildings, the Hardy Family, and the Huffman Family were the title sponsors for the event. A hot dog lunch from Dairy Center for the players of the nine teams that participated was provided midday.
Before the teams teed off, Rex Hardy, Sharon’s husband, said, “I think Sharon would be proud to see this tournament happening. She loved teaching and loved all the kids she worked with. I think she’s looking over us today.”
“Sharon Hardy was dedicated to education in Surry County. I am sure she would appreciate that this event in her honor will help create enhanced learning opportunities for students and teachers for many years,” said Ashley Mills, foundation liaison.
The morning’s first-place team included Mike Harrison, Dennis Lowe, and Randy Lions. The afternoon’s first place team included Buddy Edwards, Cam Eaton, and Don Love. All participants had an opportunity to win raffle prizes including a round of golf for four at Olde Beau Resort & Golf Club with cart and green fees and a half-page ad in Surry Living Magazine.
The Surry County Schools Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization created to improve the educational level of the county. For more information about the foundation or the endowment fund program, contact Ashley Mills, foundation liaison, (336) 386-8211 or [email protected]
