Love to sing? Surry Arts Council is staging a musical concert on Aug. 18 and 19 and is looking for singers.
“This is for anyone who loves to sing,” says Shelby Coleman, artistic director. “We have spots for adults and kids, and everyone who auditions will be part of the concert.”
The Surry Arts Council Musical Concert will feature songs from different musicals sung in cabaret style. The performances are August 18 and 19 at 3 p.m. at the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
“While everyone who auditions gets a place, auditions will help us find soloists,” said Coleman. “Since moving here I’ve been really impressed by the talent here and wanted another way to showcase it. We do these great productions, but not everyone is able to commit to the rehearsal schedule for a full show. This is a much smaller commitment.”
The rehearsals for the concert will be on Saturdays, but not every Saturday is required. “At auditions, we want people to bring a list of conflicts. We are going to work with everyone’s schedule and not all members will be required at all rehearsals, so it should be a relatively stress-free schedule.”
Auditions are Saturday, 4-6 p.m., at the Andy Griffith Playhouse and parts are available for ages 7 and older. There is no charge for participating. The Surry Arts Musical Concert is sponsored in part by the Cindi and Andy Griffith Endowment. For additional information, contact Shelby Coleman at 336-786-7998 or [email protected]
