A Pine Ridge couple has been arrested on multiple drug charges after a recent raid.

The Surry County Sheriff’s Office said this investigation, like some other cases this year, was a cooperative effort with the Mount Airy Police Department and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.

Sheriff Jimmy Combs said officers developed probable cause to issue a search warrant for a residence located at 370 Rick Road, which is off Sparger Road, about four miles northwest of North Surry High School.

The sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team executed the warrant in the pre-dawn hours on Friday. Inside, tactical officers located residents Glen Wade Tate, 56, and Vickie Puckett Tate, 59.

Once the suspects were secured, narcotics investigators from these agencies conducted a search of the residence which led to the discovery of a marijuana-growing operation consisting of 18 marijuana plants. In addition, officers seized small amounts of methamphetamine, alprazolam pills (brand name Xanax), drug paraphernalia and five firearms.

“I am proud of the men and women that are putting these cases together,” said Combs. “We will continue to work with other agencies to fight illegal drugs at every level.”

Glen Wade Tate received a $30,000 bond after being charged with the following:

• One count of manufacturing marijuana;

• One count possession of meth;

• One count of possession of a firearm by convicted felon;

• One count maintaining a drug dwelling;

• One count of possession of drug paraphernalia;

• One count of possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Vickie Puckett Tate received a $15,000 bond after being charged with the following:

• One count of manufacturing marijuana;

• One count of possession of meth;

• One count of maintaining a drug dwelling;

• One count of possession of Schedule IV alprazolam;

• One count of possession of drug paraphernalia;

• One count of possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Both of the Tates have a district court appearance on July 25 in Dobson.
