• A Walnut Cove man has been jailed under a $20,000 secured bond on drug charges that were filed after a search outside a local probation office, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. Jeremy Ray Bottoms, 21, was encountered by a city officer Friday in the parking lot of the probation facility on State Street.
This led to a random search of a vehicle owned by another man, which produced items that Bottoms “took ownership of,” arrest records state. These included a bag containing a scale, a plastic bag containing white residue and straws with white residue. During a consent search of Bottoms’ person, a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance fell out of one of his pants legs along with one milligram of the drug alprazolam. A set of brass knuckles also was located in a pants pocket.
Bottoms was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a felony; simple possession of a Schedule IV substance; carrying a concealed weapon; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on June 14.
• Chelsea Marie Azbell, 22, of 130 Deerfield Lane, No. 1, is facing multiple drug charges, including felonious possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana paraphernalia, as the result of a suspicious-vehicle investigation Saturday on Hay Street near Taylor Street. Azbell was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond to appear in District Court on July 25.
• A charge of concealing merchandise was filed last Wednesday against Brittany Nikol McBride, 22, of 130 Pooh Trail, after police responded to a larceny call at Walmart. McBride allegedly concealed items for which $186 in restitution is owed. The case is set for the Aug. 26 session of District Court.
• Tanika Darnette Watson, 36, of 208 Long St., was arrested on a series of charges, including driving while impaired, after a May 24 traffic stop on U.S. 52 at Frederick Street. In addition to DWI, Watson is accused of driving while license revoked, having an open container of alcohol, two counts of making a false report to a police station. and simple worthless check.
She was held in the Surry County Jail under a $500 secured bond and slated for a June 14 appearance in District Court.
