Surry County Schools and the Surry County Schools Educational Foundation recently recognized Franklin Elementary School fourth grade teacher Shaunda York as the June Employee of the Month.
York received several nominations from her students. Superintendent Travis Reeves recognized her at the June Board of Education meeting. The first statement he read that was written by one of her students was this, “She’s hard working and she’s a very good teacher. She is very, very, very, very, very nice! She helped me learned math and helped me with my reading.”
Another student wrote, “Mrs. York should be employee of the month because she is a nice and funny teacher. All her students smile when they see her. She knows exactly how to make someone feel better. She cares about all her students. That is why I think Mrs. York should be employee of the month.”
A parent wrote, “My son will tell you that Mrs. York is his favorite teacher! She is a Nationally Board Certified teacher and is working on her master’s degree. She serves as co-chair of SIT, is a fellow EBOB coach, leads the STEM club, and is a CRISS trainer. For the last 3-4 years, she has been in the top 3 for our school’s TOY. She’s one of the top teachers in EPIC Academy and has used DonorsChoose to fill her classroom with Chromebooks, Kindles, iPads, robots, and flexible seating.”
