Mother Nature can impact agriculture as well as events celebrating that industry, which has happened with Mayberry Farm Fest in Mount Airy.
Persistent rains have led to the postponement of the annual festival until next weekend, including a traditional Friday night tractor parade downtown and a Saturday full of various farm-related activities along North Main Street.
The parade will be held next Friday, May 25, at 6 p.m. downtown and Mayberry Farm Fest next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the same schedule that had been set for this weekend.
“This morning people started calling and cancelling,” Downtown Business Association President Phil Marsh said Friday afternoon of exhibitors and others planning to participate.
“So we decided we’d better try to do something,” he said of the downtown group that sponsors Mayberry Farm Fest.
Marsh said organizers regret having to postpone the event because of weather.
“But we really just didn’t have any choice.”
