The Dobson Woman’s Club has awarded two scholarships for the fall and spring semesters at Surry Community College.
Dakota Mills and Hannah Greenwood have each received $800 to help pay for their college expenses.
The club said the two were selected “based on their strong academic records, participation in school and extracurricular activities, and a demonstration of strong interest in community service.” Both students graduated from Surry Central High school.
Both students have a full schedule of classes at the community college. Mills has registered for 14 credit hours toward an associate degree in machining technology. He is the son of David and Cheryl Mills of Dobson.
Greenwood has registered for 20 credit hours. She is beginning her studies at the college in the early childhood program with her ultimate goal to become a third grade teacher. She is the daughter of Toni Mason of North Wilkesboro and Darren Greenwood of Elkin.
The Dobson Woman’s Club awards scholarships annually. Both these students will be eligible for additional scholarships. The club meets the second Tuesday of every month from September to May at The Lantern in Dobson. Interested women are welcome to come as guests any month.
