STUART, Va. — A Claudville woman is being held without privilege of bond on an arson charge stemming from a weekend incident in which she allegedly set a mobile home and vehicle on fire in Patrick County.
The case unfolded Saturday afternoon when deputies with the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office responded to Pedigo Ridge Road in the Claudville area after receiving a disturbance call involving a male and female.
Before the officers arrived, however, Kelly Shonta Woods, 37, of 1574 Unity Church Road, allegedly poured gas on a vehicle and on a mobile home occupied by the man, according to information provided Tuesday by Sheriff Dan Smith.
Woods then lit both the home and vehicle on fire, Smith related.
There was no word on any injuries to the male involved, who has not been identified. The Patrick County sheriff did not respond to voice-mail and email messages Tuesday to verify that he escaped unharmed, and for details on the relationship between the couple.
The Ararat Volunteer Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire before major structural damage was sustained.
Woods was located at another residence about one mile away from the fire scene. She was arrested Saturday night on a felony charge of arson of an occupied dwelling.
Deputy Oscar Tejeda was the investigating and arresting officer.
At last report, Woods was being held without bail in the Patrick County Jail at Stuart.
