A handful of Mount Airy businesses downtown in the Trinity Street vicinity will be affected by a scheduled power outage Thursday morning, according to Duke Energy.
The outage will occur Dec. 29 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. so that three overgrown willow oak trees on Trinity Street can be trimmed away from power lines.
“In order for the crews to work safely we have to de-energize the line,” said Meghan Miles, Duke Energy spokesperson. “Once we complete that work we will get the power back up and running.”
Miles could not confirm how wide a region will be affected in the outage, but noted that no residences are within the radius.
The impacted businesses have already been notified about the outages, Miles said.
Those include The Mount Airy News at 319 N. Refro St., and Brannock & Hiatt Furniture Inc., at 420 N. Main St.
Tommy Brannock said he expects the power to be back on by the time the furniture store will open at 8:30 a.m.
Either way, “we’re going to be here,” he said.
