Police reports

• A pickup and a trailer with a total value of $27,000 have been reported stolen in Mount Airy after the truck owner was “tricked,” according to city police department reports. The incident occurred Friday at 1218 State St., the address for the Surry County Human Services Center, with the 2001 Chevrolet 3500 pickup taken by a known suspect who tricked the owner, obtained the keys and stole the vehicle. Police records do not elaborate on the trickery involved. The trailer that also was taken was identified as a Wilson 20-foot model. The victims of the theft are Kenneth Joelle Stanley, a Pine Street resident, and Roger Lewis Nichols of Cadle Ford Road.

• Property damage was discovered Sunday to two vehicles at the residence of Miranda Nichole Poole on Johnson Street, a 2002 Cadillac DeVille and a Chevrolet Cavalier. One of the cars was keyed and the damage to the other was not specified, with the total listed as $200.

• Heather O’Byrne Dorsett, 42, of 274 Hiatt Road, was cited for larceny Thursday at Walmart, where she allegedly was in possession of miscellaneous clothing items with a total value of $468, which were recovered. Dorsett is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 11.

• A break-in was discovered Wednesday at the residence of Carolyn Ann Hamlin on Rawley Avenue, which involved a known individual stealing an unspecified sum of cash.

• The Sav-A-Lot grocery store on Carter Street was the scene of a theft last Tuesday, when an unknown party concealed two packages each of Skylark beef brisket and Ole Carolina bacon and one package of ground beef and left the business without paying. The stolen items were valued at $54 altogether.

• Police were told last Tuesday that a 1987 Kawasaki dirt bike had been stolen from the yard of Joseph Ashby Durham’s home on Circle Drive. The bike, green with no fenders, is valued at $100.

• Joel Estel Johnson, 53, of 700 College Place Ave., Dobson, was cited during the early morning hours last Tuesday for second-degree trespassing and possessing/consumption of alcohol in a city park after allegedly being found in a restroom at Riverside Park. Johnson is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on April 25 and has been served with a notice banning him from all municipal property.

• A break-in was discovered on April 1 at the residence of Stephanie Leah Davis in the 100 block of West Lebanon Street, which involved the theft of miscellaneous clothing, 64 pills of two types of medication, a pair of high-heel shoes, two kinds of perfume, makeup, body wash and shampoo.

• Police learned on March 26 of a crime that involved larceny and financial transaction card fraud. It began with the theft of Peggy Craine’s pocketbook from her car while it was at the Tolbert Road resident’s place of work, Colonial Care Home Inc. on Snowhill Drive. The loss included an undisclosed sum of money, a sterling silver ring with a blue center stone, a Wachovia debit card and checkbook, a driver’s license, a birth certificate, a Social Security card, a change purse with a butterfly design and blue jeans print, another purse and two pairs of surgical and other scissors. The debit card later was used for a purchase at a Family Dollar store in Mount Airy.
