VOCE holiday concert slated

The Choral ensemble VOCE will be presenting its 14th holiday concert on Dec. 21.

“Spending the Holidays with Friends, Old and New,” is scheduled to be held at Highland Park Baptist Church located at 1327 Grove Lane in Mount Airy. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

“The group is also excited at sharing the stage with several fine local musicians including a select group of instrumentalists representing the North Surry High School Band under the direction of Blake McCraw,” the group said in a statement announcing the concert.

The group was established in 2002 by Sandy Beam, who died in February 2011. The group is now led by artistic director Patti Miller Fulk, a student of Beam’s. She studied music with Beam from the time she was in the first grade at Franklin Elementary School until she graduated from North Surry High School.

She was a member of his “Franklin Treble Ensemble” which was invited to sing in cathedrals across Europe and the United States. She is a graduate of Mars Hill College with a degree in music education.

There will be no admission charge for the Dec. 21 concert. However, the group says all donations will be appreciated and tax deductible. For more information, visit the group’s website at vocemtairy.org.
