DOBSON — Paul Johnson was granted another continuance in the criminal case against the long-time Surry County commissioner.
According to officials at the Surry County Clerk of Superior Court’s office, both Johnson and the prosecution agreed to the continuance. Johnson’s next court date will now be on Feb. 15.
Johnson was indicted on four counts of obtaining property by false pretense back in February. The charges stem from an investigation led by the State Bureau of Investigation into the travel vouchers of all county commissioners and top county officials.
Following the investigation, Johnson was the only official against whom charges were filed. According to Johnson, he is accused of falsifying about $4,500 in travel expenses.
