A Mount Airy man who allegedly solicited underage women on Facebook was arrested Thursday night and charged with kidnapping and rape, said Dobson Police Chief Shawn Myers.
Joch Anthony Southern, 22, of W.S. Circle Road, was charged with first degree kidnapping, two counts of statutory rape of a juvenile and seven counts of statutory sex offense of a juvenile, Myers said.
Southern is currently in the custody of the Surry County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
According to Chief Myers, Southern had been soliciting underage girls on Facebook and met up with a 15-year-old girl at Surry Central High School, where one offense of statutory rape allegedly occurred.
About two weeks later, he allegedly met up with the girl again at the high school and drove her in his vehicle to a residence in Dobson, where the rest of the offenses occurred, said Myers.
According to Myers, due to the girl’s age and the crimes committed, the first degree kidnapping charge was statutory.
Notified by the victim’s mother, Myers said the Dobson police worked in conjunction with Surry County Schools investigating the alleged crimes.
Southern is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 15.
