A man was fatally injured Saturday afternoon in a one-car accident on N.C. 103 in the Flat Rock area.
Authorities still had not released the victim’s name Saturday night, due to all his family members not being notified.
The wreck happened about 4:45 p.m. just east of Paynetown Road, according to Surry County Emergency Services Director John Shelton.
It occurred as two male occupants, both in their 50s, were westbound in a Ford pickup.
The vehicle crossed the center line and went off the roadway on the left side. It overturned and the passenger was thrown from the cab.
That individual was killed.
“He died at the scene. They tried to resuscitate him there,” Shelton said, but those efforts were unsuccessful. “He was taken to Northern Hospital and was pronounced (dead) there.”
The driver of the pickup was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
“We were told there were more than two people in the vehicle, but we didn’t find anyone else,” Shelton said.
“And that (information) was from the person who was flown to Baptist hospital.”
At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the identity of the person fatally injured in the wreck still had not been made public.
“We haven’t found all of the family yet,” the emergency services official explained.
Trooper Robert Boyes of the N.C. Highway Patrol reportedly was the investigator of the incident, but was not available Saturday for additional details.
