Police reports

• A Mount Airy resident has become a victim of financial card fraud, according to city police department reports. Police learned of the crime Tuesday, which involved an unknown suspect stealing the debit card of Jonathan Aaron Riggs, a Marshall Street resident, and using it to withdraw money at a State Employees Credit Union CashPoints site on North Andy Griffith Parkway. No loss figure was listed.

• Mandy Payne Jones, 37, of 222 Rattler Ridge Trail, Dobson, was cited for larceny Monday at Walmart, after loss-prevention personnel there allegedly saw her steal items with a total value of $104. Jones is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on April 19.

• Chasity Leanette Smythers, 24, of 461 Horton Road, Fancy Gap, Virginia, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a felony; possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia after a May 27 traffic stop on U.S. 52 near Laurel Lane. Several items of contraband were located during a probable-cause search of Smythers’ 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, arrest records show. She was held in the Surry County Jail under a $6,000 secured bond and slated for a July 20 appearance in District Court.

• Three break-ins of coin-operating vending machines were discovered on May 25 in the same general vicinity, which involved the bill validators for the devices being pried open and/or removed. One of the crimes occurred at a car wash in the 300 block of East Pine Street, where a Hamilton change machine and an ice vending machine received total damages of $2,200, with Dale Puckett of Ararat, Virginia, as the victim. Another target was a Coke machine at Mount Airy Middle School on Hamburg Street that received damages for which no loss figure was listed. The third crime resulted in $500 in damage to a Pepsi dispenser at the Super C convenience store on East Pine Street.

• A Pioneer car amplifier valued at $300 and an unspecified sum of money were stolen as a result of two unsecured vehicles being entered at the Hickory Street residence of Jorge Guiterrez and Griselda Sanchez Delgado. The crimes involving a 2002 Honda Civic and a 1998 Honda Accord were discovered on May 25.

• Chyna Danielle Mullins, 21, of 137 Sparkle Lane, Lowgap, and Ashley Adrienne Reece, 23, of Greenville, were each arrested on charges of resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer and being intoxicated and disruptive on May 22 after they were encountered during a disturbance call in the Sagebrush parking lot on Woodland Drive. Both women were jailed under $2,500 secured bonds, with Mullins scheduled to be in court on June 30 and Reece on June 15.
