For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God is quick; it is powerful; it is sharp, even sharper than a sword of warfare; it pierces to the inward part of man, it reveals the heart, and discerns the thought of man.
“Bible” means “The Book.” It is the only book worthy of being called “the book” or the Bible. The Bible includes both the Old and New Testaments.
Dangerous to tamper with the Bible
It is God’s Book given unto man to guide him in righteousness. It was written according to the wisdom and will of God. He has never allowed man to tamper with it. It would be very dangerous for any man to knowingly mistranslate it.
God admonished Israel not to alter the word. “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you,” Deut. 4:2.
God knew there would be parts of the Bible that men would not like to live by, and that there would be some who would like to change His Word to suit themselves. He therefore demanded that Israel leave it alone as He gave it to them.
God pronounced a penalty for adding to His Word. “For I testify unto evey man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plaques that are written in this book,” Rev. 22:18.
God pronounced a penalty for taking away from His Book. “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book,” Rev. 22:19. God had the Book written like He wanted it. From its writing unto the end of the earth it will never need revising. He put into it everything that was needed, and nothing is to be taken out!
The Bible is durable
It is the oldest book in the world and has the widest circulation. It has lived through every age and generation and survived its millions of enemies.
It will stand longer than heaven and earth. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy; but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled,” Matt. 5:17,18.
Heaven and earth will pass, according to the words of Jesus, but the Word of God will stand forever.
It will survive its enemies. Infidels, atheists and all enemies of God who have defied the Bible, disbelieved it, discredited it, made fun of it, preached against it, wrote books against it. Millions of them died but the Bible still lives. All its past and present enemies and all future enemies will die and burn in hell, but the Word of God will live on.
Benefits of the Bible
It is different from any other book, and serves many purposes. It is the last word in an argument and has been known to settle great questions.
It is meat for the strong. It is milk for the weak.
Power, influence of the Bible
It’s the most powerful and influential book ever written. Its influence is detected in governments, business, schools, churches, individuals, and in all institutions; even those that do not believe in it are affected by its existence and teachings.
It is feared by all men. The Christian fears it because it is the Word of God. Those who will not follow its precepts fear the awful judgments that are promised the wicked. No man can read its truths without being affected in some manner.
Its influence in business. The Bible, more than any other book, is found in business places. Transactions have often been delayed while the business man sought its guidance.
It has changed the course of millions of lives. More lives have been influenced to good by this one book than all other books combined. The most desperate men of earth have been known to bow to its contents, be brought to a life of righteousness, and spend the balance of their days defending its truths.
The best people of earth accept its teachings. Look around and study the life of those you know to believe in it and hold to its teachings. Compare their citizenship with those who disregard the Bible. Study the history of nations and compare those who accept the Bible with those who do not, and see the difference.
Thank the Lord for his marvelous Word! His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light unto our path.
