Do you crave eternal life?

George Randall Jr. - Rocky Ford Church

Thank God for taste buds! Have you considered how very much God loves you, to have given you taste buds, and then to have provided for you the delicious food you put into your mouth? You know, all food could just taste the same, or you could have been born without the ability to enjoy flavor, and then you could eat and be nourished and live, but where would be the joy in that.

I appreciate so much the blessing of being able to consume the many wonderful types of meats, vegetables, breads, fruits, and sweets the Lord has provided you and me with. I especially enjoy the sweets. Psalm 34:8 says “O taste and see that the Lord is good:” and Psalm 103:5 “Who satisfies thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed…” If you’re at all like me, you’ve gone to work, burned up some calories, eventually your stomach starts growling, and suddenly you’re as hungry as a bear. At that point you feel like you could eat just about anything. Your body is telling you that you are in need of something. You lack what’s necessary to keep going, ultimately to continue to survive.

You know, it’s the same way with each of us spiritually. Spiritually we have an empty void within us if we’re without God. Spiritually if we don’t take Him in, we’ll perish. King David said in Psalm 42:1-2 “As the hart (deer) pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after Thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God:” He expressed an intense desire for a relationship with God. He craved an intimate communion with his Creator.

This is opposed to the unsatisfying, disappointing, unfulfilling things the world has to offer, or that the flesh might lust after. Isaiah 55:1-3 “Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which satisfies not? … Incline your ear, and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live;” Notice the scripture says “without money.” All you need to “spend” is time with Jesus!

Jesus taught in Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Again in John 6:32-63 Jesus said “My Father gives you the true bread from heaven… I am The Bread Of Life: he that comes to Me shall never hunger; and he that believes on Me shall never thirst. … if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. … Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily (truly, truly) I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood; ye have no life in you. … He that eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, dwells in Me, and I in him. … the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” Spiritually speaking, by faith we receive Him into us, in a sense, like we take in food. We receive His Gospel as true, and He becomes the source of our eternal life. Also, when you receive Jesus as your Lord, Savior, Bread Of Life, and Living Water (John 4:14, 7:37-39) your need for Him and His salvation will forever be satisfied. John 10:27-30 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give unto them eternal life…”

With Jesus within, we can repeat King David’s summation in Psalm 23:5 “ my cup runs over.” Then the only thing you crave is a deeper knowledge of Him, and more filling of His Spirit and His blessings in your life as you follow Him.
