Dunkleys Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Anna Leigh Dunkley of the Francisco community in Westfield, NC recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on January 23, 1966 in Danbury, NC.

Mrs. Dunkley is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell and Louise Goins Gunter of Collinstown, Va. Mr. Dunkley is the son of Mrs. Alma Owens Dunkley and the late Mr. Will Dunkley of Westfield, NC. The couple has one son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Abbey Mooney Dunkley, also of the Francisco community.

The couple retired from J.P. Stevens Elastomerics Corporation & United Elastic after 27 years of service. During his employment there, Mr. Dunkley maintained 25 years of perfect attendance. The couple raised tobacco for 20 years on their farm in Stokes County. They remain active members of the Francisco Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary. The couple served for many years in the Francisco Ruritan Club. They continue to work part-time at Dunkley’s Automotive. The couple attends State Line Primitive Baptist Church.

On January 31, 2016, family and friends honored the couple with a “Golden Anniversary Wedding Celebration” at the Francisco Community Building which was attended by approximately 140 guests. The event was hosted by Jane Owens Bowman, Abbey and Allan Dunkley, Virginia Vaden, Sue Payne, Sylvia Burton, Christine Hastings, and Hazel Smith.
