Youth hoops teams compete

The Mount Airy Parks & Recreation Youth Basketball league started its play recently.
The following are scores from the leagues first two days (Dec. 18 and Dec. 20).
On Day 1, David Hill Builders defeated Surry Insurance 16-14 in the Youth Hoop Girls division.
Shay Bowman led David Hill Builders with eight points, and Shelby Taylor scored seven points to lead Surry Insurance.
Wallys Pharmacy was a 19-17 winner against Olympia Restaurant in Youth Hoop Girls competition. Alexis France led a balanced scoring effort for Wallys with six points. Asherah Smith led Olympia with 11 points.
In Senior Hoop Boys action, Piedmont Insurance edged Rockford Medical 41-40. Ben Hinson led Piedmont with 18 points, and Zach Allen tossed in 12 points.
Nathan Welch led Rockford Medical with 13 points, and Zane Shockley added 12 points.
On Day 2, the Senior Hoop Boys division saw plenty of action on the hardwood.
Worth Honda took home a 36-21 win against Rockford Medical.
William Handy and Chris Hazelwood each scored 11 points to lead Worth Honda, and Blake Hetrick added 10 points. Shockley led Rockford Medical with 10 points.
In the Court Kid Boys division, Dry Bridge defeated Frank Welch Co. 32-28 behind 18 points from Clay Taylor. Gavin Taylor led Frank Welch with 11 points.
Mountain Valley nipped Surry Chemical 21-18. Austin Pardue scored 10 points to lead Mountain Valley.
Jackson Heath scored 11 points to lead Surry Chemical.
Caleb Arrington scored 21 points to lead Mount Airy Drug to a 31-28 win against Riverside Builders. Ian Holder led the Builders with 25 points.
Food Lion bought itself a 43-31 victory over Shikora. Andrew Isom scored 14 points to lead Food Lion. Alex Hall added 13 points, and Chance Sizemore put up 12 points. Ryan Grahams 26 points led Shikora.
In the Court Kid Girls division, Hills Shoes cruised to a 27-16 win against Bank of America. Shaunna Sawyers scored 20 points to lead Hills Shoes, while Hannah Speas scored nine points to lead Bank of America.
Dixie Fulk scored 10 points in Advanced Electronics 31-29 win against Aunt Beas. Karsyn Tucker cooked up 10 points for Aunt Beas.
In the Youth Hoop Boys division, Hiatt & Mason Enterprises scored a 35-33 win against Main Oak Emporium. Corbin Welch led Hiatt & Mason with 15 points, and Regan Fitzgibbons added 10.
Hunt Harrisons 17 points and Jordan Halls 10 led Main Oak.
Blue Ridge Enterprises enjoyed a pair of scorers in double figures in a 33-31 win against Granite City Auto. Jacquez Greens 13 points and Malcolm Malones 11 points led Blue Ridge Enterprises. Granite City Auto was led by Kendall Tuckers 15 points.
RHJ Trucking got 20 points from Harrison Joyce in a 37-25 win against Northside Mortgage.
Will Sparks led Northside with 12 points.
In the Junior Hoop Boys division, Rack Works cruised to a 44-26 win over T & K Enterprises.
Isiah Simmons scored a game-high 30 points to lead Rack Works, while E.J. Helton led T & K Enterprises with 12 points.
Marions Jewelry was a 30-29 winner over Granite City Construction. Jamie Smiths eight points led a balanced scoring attack for Marions Jewelry. Jared Pendleton scored 13 points to lead Granite City.
