North Surry improved its overall record to 15-0 as it cruised to a 56-11 win against Ashe County in a Mountain Valley 2-A Conference wrestling match Tuesday night.
Leading the Greyhounds (1-0 in conference), Austin Riggs (189 pounds) scored a 12-4 major decision victory against the Huskies Andrew Russell.
At 215, the Hounds Tommy McMillian pinned Josh Wineburg in 41 seconds.
In the Heavyweight match, North Surrys Brett Doss pinned Ashe Countys Zach Caffey in 1:21.
North Surry coach Eric Jessup said his wrestlers got off to a solid start and just kept on going.
We started at 189, and our big kids at the top of the lineup got us off to an explosive start, Jessup said. Freshman Austin Riggs won a big decision at 189. Doss and McMillian had two big pins.
That really set the tone for the night, those first three matches.
North Surry wrestles at the Rick Williams Duals at South Stokes on Saturday. Mount Airys wrestling team will also be at the event. Starting time is 8:30 a.m.
