PILOT MOUNTAIN Mrs. Maxine Thomas Hazen, 84, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Hazen was born in Surry County on May 6, 1924, to the late Alfred Samuel and Ruth Varina Edwards Thomas. Mrs. Hazen worked for the Signal Corp in Washington, D.C., during WWII. While residing in New Jersey, she was a homemaker and also worked for Halckey-Roberts for many years until retiring to Pilot Mountain. She was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Debra Hazen of North Attleboro, Mass., Thomas and Carol Hazen of Valparaiso, Ind., and Herbert and Cynthia Hazen of Wyckoff, N.J.; 12 grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Amy Hazen of Shrewsbury, Mass., Tara and Richard Tetreault of North Attleboro, Bethany and Joe Drew of Valparaiso, Jessie and David Elenbaas of Seattle, Wash., Kristin Hazen of Valparaiso, Jon and Christy Hazen of Lacey, Wash., Robert Hazen of Greenpond, N.J., Heather Hazen of Franklin Lakes, N.J., David Hazen of Wyckoff and Erin Hazen, Lauren Hazen and Megan Hazen, all of Wyckoff; three great-grandchildren, Evan Paul Tetreault of North Attleboro, Jacob Drew of Valparaiso and Ethan Hazen of Valparaiso; and two brothers, Wayne Thomas of Pilot Mountain and James Thomas of Arizona. In addition to her parents and husband, Edward Albert Ted Hazen, Mrs. Hazen was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Ruth Thomas; brothers, Bennil D., Burton Samuel, Ronald Melvin and Alvin Jan (A.J.) Thomas. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Simmons Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan Branch with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
