DOBSON — Mr. Leroy “Bill” Stanley, 76, of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born in Surry County on Dec. 31, 1936, to the late Roy Thomas and Lela Marion Stanley. Mr. Stanley served our country in the United States National Guard and was a devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a retired plant manager from Wayne Farms LLC after 36 years of dedicated service and truly shared a love for bluegrass gospel music. He leaves to cherish his memory, three loving children, Vickey and husband, Bruce Wood of Dobson, Pam and husband, David Smith of Siloam, and Greg Stanley of Charlotte; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Stanley of Dobson; his beloved grandchildren, Rancey Wood, Jeremiah Wood, Amber Bryant, Shane Stanley, Heather Hammaker, Haley Smith, Hunter Smith, Casey Mitchell, Landon Mitchell and Kenley Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley and husband, Charles Stanley of Dobson and Faye and husband, Billy Burton of Elkin; and a special friend, Linda Cooke of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his dear wife, Nancy Chrismon Stanley; a son, Rick Stanley; and two brothers, Thomas Edward and J.D. Stanley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Fairview Baptist Church by Dr. Andy Atkins and Shane Stanley with burial to follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Mount Airy Post #2019 and Pilot Mountain Post #9436. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., where his body will remain to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
