MOUNT AIRY — Mr. William “Bill” Fulton Mitchell, 85, of Mount Airy, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Stokes County to the late Ralph and Helen Lee Grace Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII. He retired from the Veterans Administration after 36 years in hospital administration. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, David Stephens, Jay and Susan Bolen, Barry and Terri Stephens, Sharon Mitchell, Sandra Mitchell and Mark Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Mitchell of King. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Stephens Fulk; and brother, John Mitchell. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Brims Grove Cemetery conducted by Dr. Joel Stephens with full military rites to be conducted by VFW Post #2019 of Mount Airy and Post #9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Howell-Nelson Funeral Service of Pilot Mountain, where they will then have a procession to the graveside service.
