MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Charles Burton Dinkins, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 21, 1927, in Surry County to the late William Wesley Dinkins and Lottie Jones Dinkins. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Dinkins served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dinkins retired from Duke Power after working 36 years. He was a member and past elder of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Frances Hunt Dinkins of the home; a daughter, Debbie Dinkins Powell of Mount Airy; a daughter-in-law, Vicky Dinkins of Elkin; three granddaughters, Addison Dinkins Greene and husband, Zack, of Jonesville, Lauren Dinkins of Greensboro and Abby Frances Bowman of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Payton Elizabeth Greene and Kylie Mackenzie Joyce; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dinkins was preceded in death by a son, William Hunt “Bill” Dinkins; a sister, Betty Dinkins Fulk; and a twin brother, William Wesley Dinkins. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Oakdale Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Moody Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the time to leave for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Flat Rock Presbyterian, P.O. Box 884, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Grace Moravian Church, 1401 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
