MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Jack Monday Cox, 85, of Mount Airy, widower of Shirley Sydnor Cox, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Cox was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Surry County to Charles E. and Annie Monday Cox. He was retired from Pine State Knitwear and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Lee and Hank Hardin of Spruce Pine and Lynn and Rodney Garrett of Durham; grandchildren, Wade Garrett of Durham, April Garrett of Durham, Jennifer Clark and her spouse, Stacey, of Newland, Renee Bailey and her spouse, Burke, of Topsail Beach, and Margaret LaFave and her spouse, Brad, of Spruce Pine; four great-grandchildren, Madison Clark, Amy Grace LaFave, William LaFave and Jack Granville Bailey; and a brother and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Mona Cox of Sarasota, Fla., and Inez Cox of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Sydnor Cox; two sisters, Janice Cox and Mary B. Sparger; and brothers, James “Butter” Cox and C. Edmond Cox. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jim Pyatt officiating. There will be a private interment service. The Cox family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 N.
