Mr. Vernon Hodges, age 77, of Elkin, NC passed away at his home on Friday November 16, 2012. He was born in Surry County to the late James Alvin Hodges and the late Bertha White Hodges on September 30, 1935. Mr. Hodges was a graduated of Dobson High School in 1953, he retired from the Surry County with Twenty Five years of service in 1997 as a Asst. Tax Supervisor and a Appraiser, he was a License NC Real-Estate Broker and taught the NC Real-Estate Licensing Course at SCC from 1979 to 1991, he served as a Grand Jury Officer in Surry Co. from 2000 to 2012. Vernon loved Surry County and appreciated the opportunity to serve. Surviving are his wife Yvonne Haynes Hodges of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law Jane Hodges Wyatt and Brim Wyatt of Elkin, NC, Janice Hodges Lewis and Wayne Lewis of Huntersville, NC; one son and daughter-in-law Jason and Sharon Hodges of Millersville, MD; by six grandchildren Lindsey and Scott Chenevey, Caleb and Angela Wyatt, Adrienne Lewis, Stephanie Lewis, Ethan Hodges, and Seth Hodges; by five great grandchildren Josie, Corban, and Maylin Chenevey, Jackson, and Addison Wyatt. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday November 19, 2012 at Fairview Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Dr. Andy Atkins will conduct the services. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 Min. before the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030.
