MOUNT AIRY — Mr. James Woodrow “Woody” Gwyn, 70, of 157 Broken Branch Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 14, 2012, at his home. Mr. Gwyn was born April 12, 1942, in Surry County to the late James Richard and Lucy O’Neal Gwyn. He retired from Simmons Nissan after 25 years of service, he was a self-employed mechanic for 15 years and attended Union Hill Friends Meeting Church. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Creed Gwyn of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Janet Gwyn of Ararat and Kevin and Teresa Gwyn of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Bailey Gwyn and Emma Grace Gwyn; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Tilley of Mount Airy, Carolyn and Mike Reed of Columbia, S.C., Stacey Lawrence of Ararat and Gail and Benny Anderson of Mount Airy; one brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Maxine Gwyn of Mount Airy; and his good friend, “his dog,” Molly. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gwyn was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Combs; and a brother, Davis Gwyn. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Union Hill Friends Meeting Church with services conducted by speaker Ricky Easter with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Union Hill Friends Meeting Church.
