MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Winona “Fern” Sykes Key, 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Surry County on June 26, 1939, to the late Coy Leonard and Essie Faye Snow Sykes. Mrs. Key was retired from Renfro Manufacturing and was a member of East Side Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, James Lee Key of the home; a son, Richard Anthony Key of Mount Airy; a grandchild and spouse, Tamela Marie Key and Donavon Nichols of Galax, Va.; two sisters and brother-in-law, Launa Maebeth Wilson, Ginger Coylee and Frank Bode, all of Mount Airy; and a brother, Teddie Elwood Sykes of Mississippi. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Key was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Allen Sykes. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. at East Side Baptist Church with Pastor John Tolliver and the Rev. Paul Bunke officiating. Burial will follow in the Snow Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
