MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Troy Edgar Newman, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away at his home Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012. He was born in Surry County on Nov. 8, 1926, to the late Charles Edgar and Esther Wright Newman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from McLean Trucking. Mr. Newman was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marguerite and Steve Burcham of Mount Airy and Ginger and Jimmy Utley of Dobson; three grandchildren, Justin Burcham and wife, Michelle, Meghan Burcham and Garth Utley and wife, Kristin; a great-granddaughter, Alicia Burcham; two sisters, Elsie Simpson of Mount Airy and Mary Nell King of Charlotte; a brother and sister-in-law, Garnet Newman and wife Norma of Mount Airy; and family friends, Helen Watson and Marilyn Driggers, both of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Wood Newman; two sisters, Della Atkinson and Bertie Branch; and three brothers, Paul, Roger and Clifford Newman. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy.
