CLAUDVILLE, Va. — Mr. Freddie Robert “Ice Cream Man” Montgomery, 74, of Claudville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Montgomery was born in Patrick County on April 22, 1938, to Ellen Montgomery Chaney. Mr. Montgomery proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends. Surviving are his loving wife, Nellie Burkhart Montgomery of the home; a daughter, Beverly McAdams of Bassett; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jackie Montgomery of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Heather Montgomery, Jessica Montgomery and Ricky McAdams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Otis Willard of Cana; Gracie and Bernie Edwards of Lowgap, N.C.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Pansy Chaney of Westfield and Monroe and Cindy Chaney of Lowgap. In addition to his mother, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by a son, Ricky A. Montgomery; his stepfather, Benjamin Harrison Chaney; a sister, Avis Chaney; and brothers, Matthew Chaney and Russell Chaney. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Holy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. Butch Holder and the Rev. Elmo Hiatt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.
