PILOT MOUNTAIN — Senator Don W. East, 67, of Pilot Mountain, joined his wife, Connie, in the presence of their Lord Monday morning, Oct. 22, 2012. Don was the son of the late Ralph Junior and Viola Hall East. He was born on Dec. 26, 1944, in Surry County and was retired from the Winston-Salem Police Department and currently serving in the N.C. Senate. Don was a family man who loved his home, his grandboys and his cars. He was a man who said what he meant and meant what he said. He is survived by his daughter, Gina, and son-in-law Mickey Southern of Kernersville; his cherished grandsons, Matthew Southern of Walnut Cove and Jacob Southern of Kernersville; one brother, R.J. East of Mount Airy; sisters, Rachel Taylor of Asheboro and Shelby Tucker of Mount Airy; a much loved brother-in-law, Dr. Davey Stallings and his wife, Nancy, of Rural Hall; a trusted niece, Jill Lane of Winston-Salem; and others. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Church of Christ with Mr. Ralph Sproles and Mr. Don Wallace officiating with burial to follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund at 901 E. Street, NW, Ste. 100, Washington, DC 20004-2025.
