MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Smith was born in Surry County on Jan. 12, 1937, to the late Herbert Neil and Nanny Vesti Shelton Smith. He was a retired electrician and was of the Christian faith. He served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Watson Smith of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Darren Ray and Alison Smith of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Tyler Ray, Jackson Wesley, Landon Blake and Lauren Ashleigh Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Lorie Smith of Smithfield, Va., Clarence Edward and Shelby Smith, Bobby Gray and Shelby Smith, Clay Franklin and Joan Smith, all of Mount Airy, Georgia Anderson of Claudville, Va., Elvi Watson of Seaford, Va., and Willa Dean Bowman of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Parley J. and wife Jane Jones of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Virginia Smith Childress; and a brother, Russell Newton Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Sproles and the Rev. Stewart Mauck officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
