MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Otis Andy George, 88, of 168 Bancroft Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, March 16, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. George was born Dec. 18, 1924, in McDowell County, W.Va., the son of the late Andy Lee and Christine Norman George. Otis served our country in the United States Army during World War II and retired as a truck driver from Spector Freight Lines. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret King of Mount Airy; a daughter-in-law and caregiver, Norma Creed of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Darlene Annette Davis of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Summer Hill; three great-great-grandchildren, Haley Todd, Brody Todd and Rielly Hill; a brother, Chester “Check” George of Mount Airy; a half sister and her husband, Rita Jo and Lonnie Atkins of Mount Airy; a half brother, Garnett Venable of Mount Airy; several special stepgrandchildren; and several special stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. George was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Anna Venable George; a granddaughter, Deana Mills Grubb; a sister, Minnie Rachel George Venable Holyfield; four brothers, Elmer George, Aldie George, Arvil George and Rudolph George; a half brother, Troy Venable; and three special stepsons. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
