ATKINS
ARARAT — Mr. Cecil E. Atkins, 94, of Ararat, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home. He was born April 13, 1918, in Surry County to the late B. Elzavan and Jennie Alice Simpson Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a farmer and a lifetime member of the Eldora Ruritan Club. He attended Blackwater United Methodist Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Paul Simmons of Ararat; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Ivey Jean Atkins of Ararat; grandchildren, Lisa Shelton and Randy Adams, Dena Cain and Nick and Michelle Sechrist; great-grandchildren, Steven Flinchum, Angel and husband Cale Hedrick, Breana Largen, Kasey Sechrist and Kayla Sechrist; great-great-grandchildren, Sophia Harris and Cecilia Harris; sister, Eva Davis of Pilot Mountain; and brother, Moir Atkins of Ararat and special friend, Dixie Bedsaul. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Maye Atkins; and granddaughter, Vicki Maye Atkins Bowers. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Ted Turman and the Rev. Bill Watson with interment to follow at Little Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 18, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy.
