First baseman Jess Wilmoth led off the second inning by getting a solid hit for the Golden Eagles and also went error-free at first base against Reagan.
DOBSON — The Reagan Raiders beat the the Surry Central boys varsity baseball team 7-0 in a non-conference shutout game at home on Monday, but the Golden Eagles came out showing depth at the pitcher position.
The Golden Eagles gave solid hits most of the game, but Reagan fielded the Golden Eagles’ hits in the game very efficiently.
Junior Samuel Harris started on Monday for the Golden Eagles at the pitching position, followed by Jake Henley in the fourth inning, J.C. Whitt in the sixth and then Kaden Leonard in the seventh. There were no runs scored by Reagan in the seventh inning.
The Reagan Raiders scored two runs in the top of the first inning, one in the third, and three in the fourth. The score was 6-0 Reagan in the fourth and fifth innings. The Raiders also scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, giving them the final of 7 against the Golden Eagles.
In the bottom of the first,the Golden Eagles led with short stop Forest Kimbrell as the first batter. Kimbrell got a good hit to center field, and got on first. All-conference catcher Austin Stevens then got a base hit, but Reagan made the play at second getting Kimbrell out. In the third place of the lead batting line-up, Caleb Mitchell got a solid hit, but again Reagan grounded efficiently against the Eagles. Cole Fowler then hit a straight line shot at Reagan’s pitcher, but he fielded the fly ball and the Golden Eagles had racked up three outs.
In the bottom of the second inning, Jess Wilmoth hit a hard line drive down the second base line getting a base hit. He was followed in the line-up by Kaden Leonard, who got a solid hit, but it was fielded by Reagan to get him out.
In the third inning, Jake Wilmoth made a hard stop on Reagan’s first batter and the Golden Eagles held the Raiders to one run.
The rest of the game continued with the Golden Eagles getting some solid hits and some base hits, but Reagan stayed on guard in both the infield and outfield with heads-up plays.
Overall for most of the game, the Raiders pounded line drives and hits that fell just past the Eagles’ infield and just short of their outfield during most of the game.
All-conference Austin Stevens caught consistently for the Golden Eagles all game long doing his part in fielding throws and keeping Reagan run-ins within range after some very hard Raider hits.
The Eagles are 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
