Rescue officials were on the scene of a farm accident Saturday afternoon, one they say claimed the life of a 71-year-0ld county man.
According to John Shelton, director of Surry County Emergency Services, the man was working on a farm tractor at the time of the accident.
“He was working on the tractor when he started it and it rolled over on top of him, pinning him under the tractor,” Shelton said.
The accident occurred at a residence on New Life Church, off of Haystack Road, according to Shelton.
He declined to release the victim’s name.
“We have notified his wife and a few of his family members, but we’re not releasing the name of the individual until later,” he said.
According to Shelton, emergency responders received the call shortly before 3 p.m. yesterday.
