WINKLER
ELKIN — Mr. Charles Henry “Buck” Winkler, 86, of Elkin, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. He was born in Baltimore on March 7, 1926, to the late Adam Henry Winkler and Susan Pfeiffer Winkler. Mr. Winkler was a retired poultry farmer. One of his many hobbies was woodworking “making sawdust” and of the Catholic faith and had a strong belief in his Heavenly Father. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Stacey D. and husband Jeffery Wood of Mills River and Stephen and wife Janet Winkler of Saltillo, Miss.; a sister, Delores Schafer of Baltimore; and several special nieces and nephews. He was greatly loved, not only by his family, but by all who met him in every community they ever lived. In addition to his parents, Mr. Winkler was preceded in death by his dear wife of over 60 years, Gladys Estelle Winkler; a brother, Lawrence Winkler; and his beloved cat, “Willie.” The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ballard and his staff; Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care.
