COLUMBIA, S.C. — Maj. Theodore Jefferson Blizard, US Army (Ret), 77, of Columbia, died peacefully at his home Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, with his family by his side. Born June 5, 1935, in Mount Airy, he was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Blizard and Glenna Pierce Blizard Taylor. Maj. Blizard proudly served two tours in Vietnam receiving two Bronze Stars. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Blaney Blizard; a son, Theodore J. (Shauna) Blizard Jr. of Columbia; a daughter, Elizabeth (Peter) Camelo of Simpsonville; stepsons, Thomas (Cheryl) Campbell of Black Mountain, N.C., James Campbell of Columbia and Madison Campbell of Columbia; stepdaughters, Kimberly (Foster) Hamilton of Columbia and Kelly (Myron) Cornelius of Columbia; sister, Peggy (Roger) Needham of Mount Airy; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Maj. Blizard was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Blizard. A graveside service for Maj. Blizard will be held at 11 o’clock, Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, with full military honors. The Rev. Tiffany Knowlin will officiate.
