To the Editor,

I read the article concerning the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History with interest. I hope the commissioners and other groups that have available funds will assist the museum. Just this past Saturday, my husband and I and two friends from out of town spent a delightful two hours touring the museum at the extremely reasonable price of $3 each.

The museum is beautiful and full of fascinating displays and artifacts. There is something for everyone — from the Donna Fargo exhibit to the vintage fire trucks to the explanation of how integral textile mills were to the local economy. I had the privilege of volunteering at the museum a few years ago, and I know first hand how many school children from our area benefit from touring the museum. They love the hands-on activities and are immediately in touch with their own history when they enter the building.

Funds are scarce everywhere, and it is hard to fund everything, but we have a true jewel on Main Street, and we need to make sure it shines.

Sorry,

But this might end up being like the Tea Pot Museum in Sparta. With the economy like it is, this is not a good idea. Local groups can raise the monies and not the TAX PAYERS MONIES. Commissioners beware, citizens are watching your every move. You know this isn't a good idea. Bring business to the County and get those jobs for the Citizens. Thanks for being a sensible Commission.
