PELL

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Philip Hiatt Pell passed away on Saturday evening, the 9th day of February 2013. He was 91 years of age. At the time of his passing, he was a resident of the Nevada State Veterans’ Home of Boulder City. Mr. Pell was born and raised in Pilot Mountain, N.C. He served a term as mayor of Pilot Mountain. He was a World War II combat veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific. He was active in the town’s economy, owning and operating a general store and other businesses for many years. Mr. Pell was an enthusiastic supporter of the Salvation Army and the local Boy Scout troop. Until his retirement and relocation to Nevada, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain. He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Phillip Talton and Heidi of Las Vegas and Mark and Wanda of Charlotte, N.C. He leaves four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He has one brother, Allan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Peacock Pell; and two siblings, Evelyn Burnside and Joseph Andrew Pell Jr. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in the Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tom Hunter will preside. Mr. Pell will be interred at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
